The subject
Our subject is Facilitate safe migration of people.. It comes from the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goal number 10, which is entitled "reduce inequalities". The research question we formulated from that subject is: "How can we help migrants to have reliable information to prepare for the travel and/or settle down?".
Our problem
After having carried out some research on the conditions of migrants, we raised a major problem of resourcing of correct, relevant and precise information. Indeed, the majority of our test sample emphasized their need for a platform that puts them at the heart of their business and empowers them to do so. The need for a new tool, easy, accessible and free was highlighted. A solution that, in the long run, would be a key to a lighter and more fluid migration path. LaBoussole was then born!
The idea
Our application should act as a crossroads for crucial and out-of-date information.LaBoussole should enable migrants to make well-considered choices that are tailored to their own circumstances and is a solution to this demand for clarity of all of these procedures and this fairly hazy migration route. One of our core goals is to empower migrants by giving them with the resources they need to plan a better period and path of work and travel abroad.
You will find attached below the mind map that we produced as a team. This mind map represents the though-process behind the understanding of our subject, the formulation of our research question and the brainstorming for a solution to our research question.
We first started by making a clear list of the types of migrant that exist, in order to understand their respective needs. We then formulated the type of issue that each type might encounter. It alllowed us to choose wich problematic we wanted to work on. Once we chose our problematic, we used the mindmap to come up with two concepts. After making a brief summary of each, and defining wich need it would answer to, we made the choice to continue with La Boussole.
Prior to beginning the application's development, we needed to be as specific as possible about our project. That's why we came up with a detailled plan of our project. In the Iframe you will find:
Definition
A search engine using AI and API that looks for specific immigration information requested by the users. Using an API, La Boussole will take information scattered across the web and centralize it in a user friendly way on the application. The AI will make La Boussolle more and more pertinent in its search for information regarding the requests.
Target
People wishing to migrate to a country and looking for reliable information, an approach to follow, guidance. These people must be literate or have a literate audience. Focus on the people who have the means to get access to the app: migrants with the necessary technological capabilities such as a smartphone or internet plan. These people must be of legal majority, i.e. 21 years old.
The next stage was to create a wireframe for the initial draft of our application. We haven't even begun the design step at this point. We chose to present a basic interface that is both accessible and intelligible to an audience that is not necessarily familiar with technology. After taking consideration the feedbacks of our peers, we made our wireframe more complet, and with even less styling effect. Find attached below the two wireframes.
To create our mock-ups, we put ourselves in the boots of the user's
potential users. The objective was to provide the most basic and obvious
information possible while also making the program intuitive. We used
various user tests to improve. We were capable of making some necessary
modifications to enhance our outcome thanks to the input from the testing. From the testing of our app
After testing our V1, the main feedback that we got was that the user wanted an app with all th information contained on the same frame. The users wanted to be able to compare the information in a dynamic and simple way. Hence, instead of redirecting on a new frame to view the information, we created an accordeon menu. it allowed the user to centralized all the info without having to go back and forth.
Figma
During the Prototyping of our project, we heavily relied on Figma. We took advantage of its collaborative features to take the best of our ideas and design the app as we imagined it. We used many tutos for that especially in order to understand how to make accordeons (link).
Website
To design our website we used HTML and CSS. We used the skeleton library as well as several Google Font. To get our icon, we used AwesomeFont.
Iteration Process
We followed the iteration methodology to improve our application. Here you can find the summary of this process.
